Privacy Policy — Launch Compass

Last updated: September 10, 2026

Oversite Technologies LLC ("we", "us", or "our") publishes Launch Compass, an Android app that tells you which direction and how high to look to see a rocket launch from where you are standing. Launch Compass has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. We do not collect, store, sell, or share personal data about you.

How the App Uses Device Permissions

Approximate location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION)

With your permission, the app reads your phone's approximate location to work out the compass bearing and elevation angle from you to the launch. That position is used on your device and is not stored by us. You can decline the permission entirely and type a location instead — the app works the same way.

The one exception is the optional cloud-cover forecast. When it runs, your coordinates are first rounded to about 0.1° (roughly seven miles) and sent to a server we operate, which passes them to the Open-Meteo weather service and returns the forecast. We do not log or store those coordinates, and they are too coarse to identify an address.

Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)

Used to show launch alerts. Alerts are scheduled locally on your phone. Nothing is sent to a push service, and we never learn which launches you were alerted about.

Exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM)

A launch alert is only useful if it arrives at a precise time before liftoff. This permission lets the alert fire on schedule. If you deny it, the app falls back to an inexact alarm and still works.

Data Storage

Your saved location, settings, alert preferences, and the last downloaded launch schedule are stored in local files on your device only. There is no account and no user profile on our servers. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all of its data.

Network Requests

The app downloads the public launch schedule, which is sourced from Launch Library 2 by The Space Devs, and makes the optional cloud-cover lookup described above. Depending on the release, the schedule request goes either to a caching server we operate or directly to the Launch Library 2 public API; either way it carries nothing about you beyond what any ordinary web request carries. Standard connection metadata such as your IP address is handled by the receiving service as part of serving that request. We do not store it or use it to build a profile.

Data Sharing

We share no personal data with third parties. The only information that leaves your device is the rounded, non-identifying coordinate pair used for the weather lookup.

Analytics and Tracking

Launch Compass contains no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.

Payments

In-app purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We never receive or store your payment details, and we keep no record of what you have purchased — purchase state is restored from your Google Play account. Google's handling of payment information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

Data Deletion

Because we store no personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete. Removing the app from your phone removes everything it saved.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to anyone under the age of 13, and because the app collects no personal data, no information from children is collected.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will notify you by posting the updated policy on this page.
